HTLV (Human T-Lymphotropic Virus) Confirmatory Testing

Bonfils recently received inquiries from clients about the discontinuation of the HTLV confirmatory test. In October, 2006 we were notified by our testing laboratory, Focus Technologies, Inc. of a statement in the package insert of the HTLV western blot (immunoblot) test. The manufacturer specifically states that results from this test should not to be used as information to counsel donors. When we were made aware of these packet insert instructions, we discontinued confirmatory testing for HTLV. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Tim Lombardi Joins Bonfils’ Client Development Team

Tim Lombardi joined Bonfils Blood Center staff in 2005 as a quality systems specialist. In March of this year, Lombardi was hired as the newest member of the client development team working in tandem with Jonathan Bautista and Bill Plachetzki. He brings expertise in all blood center operations including production, distribution and quality control to his new role. Lombardi's overall experience in blood center operations and systems will help support and meet our healthcare clients' needs.

Bonfils’ Summer Donation Campaign Underway

You can help combat the decline in summertime donations by giving blood with Bonfils Blood Center this season. As our healthcare partners know well, blood donations can drop up to 20 percent in June, July and August yet the need for blood products often increases during this time due to increased accidents, scheduled surgeries and medical treatments.

With nine community donor centers and as many as 13 mobile blood drives each day, giving blood can easily become part of your summer routine and your blood donation can save and enhance the lives of up to three patients. To thank you for your life-saving gift, all donors who give blood now through July 14 will receive a Bonfils t-shirt and those who give between July 15 and Sept. 8 will receive a Bonfils water bottle. By making two blood donations between now through Sept. 8 will also be entered to win a six-night trip for two adults to Paraiso Del Mar in Riviera Maya, Mexico courtesy of Apple Vacations.

Bonfils Recognized by State Legislature
On Thursday, April 19 State Rep. Spencer Swalm and Senator Nancy Spence paid tribute to Bonfils Blood Center with a plaque presentation on the capitol steps for the more than 60 years of service to Colorado as the steward of the community blood supply. In addition to the tribute, Swalm presented House Resolution 1010 on the House floor to raise public awareness of the need not only for blood, but also for marrow, organ and tissue donation in recognition of Donate Life Month. Swalm was also the first to roll up his sleeve and take part in the annual State Capitol Blood Drive held the same day.
