Recipient to Meet Life-Saving Blood Donors

On June 28, Bonfils Blood Center introduced Hays Padrnos to seven of the 22 blood donors that helped save her life a little more than one year ago at the blood center’s annual Community Lifelines event.

Padrnos gave birth to her third baby girl, Ella Christine, on June 14, 2006 at 8:58 p.m. Ella was 7 pounds, 1 ounce, looked just like her sisters and was the picture of health. Hays, however, was unusually weak and tired. As the hours passed she suffered extensive blood loss and needed emergency surgery and blood transfusions to save her life. The selfless generosity of 22 blood donors along with the experienced medial care she received from staff at Sky Ridge Medical Center, part of the HeatlhONE system located in Lone Tree, Colo., made her recovery possible.

Bonfils’ partnership with HealthOne dates back to 1995 when the system was founded. However, the blood center’s relationship as a primary blood provider to Swedish Medical Center and Presbyterian / St. Luke’s Medical Centers – both part of HealthONE – spans more than five decades. Additionally, Bonfils has provided more than 11,000 life-saving blood products to Sky Ridge Medical Center since the hospital opened its doors in 2003 and nearly 3,900 units of blood were distributed to Sky Ridge this year alone.

Bonfils is thrilled to partner with Sky Ridge Medical Center and HealthOne for the 2007 Community Lifelines event. If you would like more information about Community Lifelines or would like to share patient stores with us to help promote good patient outcomes and highlight healthcare partnerships in publications and at events, please contact Jessica Lang, Bonfils’ community outreach coordinator.
