Bonfils Donor Testing Lab Adopts Capture® Technology

Effective Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006 Bonfils Blood Center's Donor Testing Lab (DTL) implemented a new test of record for red cell antibody screening. DTL has now implemented Immucor's proprietary Capture® technology on the Galileo automated testing platform.

Capture® technology is a microplate-based method which offers superior sensitivity and specificity for clinically significant antibodies. With pre-coated antigens on the test wells at time of manufacture, Capture technology lends itself to automation and contributes to Galileo's efficient test processing by limiting time-consuming pipetting steps. Additionally, Capture plates can be stored at room temperature and hold an extended expiration date, making reagent inventories easier to manage. DTL believes the implementation of the Galileo system and Capture test methods will provide a superior level of quality and service for the future. Additional tests such as CMV are also scheduled to move to the Galileo system in the near future.

About Immucor's Galileo system

Galileo is Immucor's second generation fully automated instrument for pre-transfusion diagnostics. The Galileo provides hospitals, clinical reference laboratories and blood donor centers a fully automated solution to perform all the routine blood bank tests, including blood grouping, antibody screening, antibody identification, Weak D, DAT, crossmatch, CMV and Syphilis screening.  A high throughput instrument, the Galileo can process up to 224 samples at once and features linear racks for continuous loading and unloading of samples and reagents.  The Galileo includes industry-exclusive features such as reflex testing, dual pipetting arms for faster throughput and an LED user interface for sample and resource handling.
